You're going to get many different views on which is the ideal antivirus/anti spyware/firewall. It is really your own preference to which you like best.
For an antivirus, i would suggest either one of the following. (remember only have one antivirus program on your computer)

I don't suggest norton because it is a memory hog, i.e. uses a lot more of resources than the other programs i've mentioned, therefore maybe resulting in a slightly slower computer.
