avira antivir
avast home edition
avg free
i am leaning towards avira antivir as i heard its detection rates and real time protection are tops, is this true?
my neighbor swears by it.
i have bad things about avg even though it is very popular, i heard its detection rate is bad, again, true?
and where does avast stand with these two?
Answer:
As far as I know, Antivir has a high detection rate but avast and avg have a good detection rate too. You can check their detection rates at the following website. They check security products. Just click the comparatives link in the left and view the latest report. There, you can compare which one of them is ideal for you.

However, one advantage about Avast is the capability to do a boot time scan.
Avast boot time scan before windows start so it can remove any stubborn viruses that cannot be remove when Windows is running.
A very useful feature that might come in handy.
Answer:
unless you really configure it right AVG wont work…
since you’re asking this question it sounds like you want a good solid, install and forget solution, that's Avast HOME edition, it uses heuristic scanning of all new files and auto updates 1-2 times a week…
AVG is the popular kid in school that everyone hangs out with that’ll someday be manager at Burger King…. Avast is the quiet nerdy kid that has only a few friends that will someday be vice president of Burger King inc.
Answer:
For detection avira antivir > avast home edition > avg free.
I personally prefer Avast, because it has the ideal real-time protection of these three. The other three have good real-time, but not as good. Antivir has the best detection rates, but I find it annoying. Avg is lacking, but still good enough too use. Avast is very simple too use.
I don't use any antivirus on this personal, because Linux Mint does not need any. =)
Answer:
i would use avg for good protection without lots of pop-ups bugging you all the time. Avast is ok but to be honest i don't like its detection rate. Antivir has awesome detection rate but has lots of false alarms. It thinks a lot of things are viruses that are not. I would choose avg but its really up to you. Which ever you select i would advocate download threatfire from pctools.com it will increase your protection extremely!!!! Good luck.
also avg doesn't use a lot of memory to run so that’s a plus.
Answer:
Go with avast! Home edition. Its control panel and real time detection engine are nearly as good if not better than pricier counterparts like norton. You get viral/trojan definition updates for life and it also integrates quite nicely with your existing email client. All you need to do is register once each year to continue your subscription.
Answer:
Well, im not sure about these programs, but something that has really helped me is Spybot Search and Destroy, it does a big search of all your files, and picks out keyloggers, trojan horses, spyware, hackers of any sort, and anything along this line.
Its an incredible program and you’ve the option to immunize your personal to protect it from harmful programs.
Answer:
Avast is great at removing the viruses, that's for sure. It cleaned up my personal in a single sweep. I'm not sure about the detection rate, but I get maybe 2 alerts per week and I haven't had any virus issues since I got it.
