My free subscription for norton is about to run out and i need a new antivirus program to download from the web. i already have a firewall but just need a simpole program, ive already tried the AVG one and it messed up my laptop. any suggestions anyone??

AVG is the most commonly suggested for free anti-virus. If it messed up your laptop it might because youw eren't protected across the board. Before you try different virus tools try getting spyware protection such as Windows Defender, Spysweeper or Spybot (I believe all free) and doing your windows updates and setting up a firewall. the agv shouldnt have done any harm, its very good. i would try uninstaling and trying again but also use adaware. both can be downloaded from cnet and they work together ok. trojans seem to be the main problem at the moment and adaware sorts them pretty well.
