I’m pretty sure it has worked but not completely, the boxes don't pop up anymore but apparently the hackers can get our personal information..if we were to type in a password etc..

Just because you're not seeing pop-ups don't mean you dont have viruses on your personal. You need to run a variety of antivirus software, since none alone can ever absolutely rid malware from your system. Also, install a top firewall software such are Zone Alarm to help block silent access through your IP. The system built-in firewall suks - for sure!
Mastrscan is great to detect and clean worm viruses and Xoftspy is really great at detecting most persistent trojan and spyware. also try Spyware Doctor and Adaware pro.
